Dear Members,
I am writing to invite you to a Special General Meeting (SGM) for the purpose of deciding upon the closure of the Newark Branch of the Royal Air Forces Association (RAFA).
The SGM will take place on 7th October 2025:
Location: Newark Services Club, 23a London Road, Newark.
Time: 13:00
The committee this year has been very proactive, organising events and supporting the Wings appeal. For example, we have raised £2250 towards Wings appeal so far this year and we have also organised lunches, coffee mornings and trips to the IBCC and the National Arboretum. Unfortunately, the support we have is insufficient to continue with organised functions and the Committee members feel that the only option is closure.
In the event of closure, the members of Newark would be given the option to move their membership to a different branch and all the remaining assets returned to the Association.
I am sure you will have views on this, and you will have an opportunity to discuss all these matters at the SGM that has been arranged. We will, of course, be bound by the views of those in attendance.
Therefore, an SGM has been planned on the 7th October at 13:00 (see attached Agenda) to decide the future of the Newark Branch.
These are our two options to consider:
Voluntary Closure: The Branch decides to close, for example due to lack of members or inability to form a committee.
Creation of a RMG: The branch voluntarily decides to close but form a Registered Members Group.

Amalgamation: Joining together of two Branches to form one stronger branch; either both branches close and a new branch is formed or, more generally, one branch closes when it joins another branch.
We have explored amalgamation with Balderton, however, we hit a brick wall on this one. Which leaves forming an RMG or full closure as the only two options.
